2014 State Workshop: Need to Know

State Workshop NEED TO KNOW

We encourage all members to do the following in preparation of the State Workshop:
  • Prepare for elections by reading about our members who have answered the call to lead by standing for office.  We have a talented slate of candidates.  Take some time to red about why they want to lead our state association.  Click here for more details.

  • At the State Workshop Business Meeting, the Executive Board would like to vote on the proposed amendments to the MIRSA by-laws.  Click here to read the proposed amendments and rationale. You may also view the "Bylaws and Operating Codes" posted on our website.

  • You have until Friday, October 3 to apply for a MIRSA scholarship.  Please note that there is a young professional scholarship, a professional leadership scholarship, and a student scholarship category.  Read more here.

  • If your department is looking to hire graduate assistants or interns, our student state representative would like to hear from you.  Please forward any anticipated GA or Intern positions to Sarah at distefano@oakland.edu by Tuesday, October 7.

  • Consider Hosting the MIRSA State Workshop - MIRSA is currently accepting applications to host upcoming annual state workshops! The event is typically held the 3rd week in October each year.  Alternative dates would be considered if rationale for change is provided and approved by the Executive Board. Apply here to host a future State Workshop!

The State Workshop Planning Committee is excited for the 2014 State Workshop hosted at Central Michigan University!

This year’s workshop schedule can be downloaded via the Guidebook App to your mobile devices via your respective App stores (Google Play, App Store).  Look for “2014 MIRSA State Workshop." Below are some very important and exciting highlights for this year’s State Workshop Agenda:

  • Wednesday afternoon, we’ll be going to Isabella County Commission on Aging and spending some time with our local Seniors
  • Wednesday Evening Pre-Workshop social will be held at the CMU Events Center and attendees can play and experience Wheel Chair Basketball. Which university will be crowned as MIRSA Wheel Chair Champ?
  • Bring any new or gently worn professional attire. This will provide an opportunity for our students to help build their professional wardrobe.  Bring these items with you when registering on Thursday morning.
  • Vendors Showcase! We have some great workshop partners: Life Fitness, Direct Fitness Solutions and Fitness Things that will be in attendance this year.  Please make sure to stop by to give a friendly “MIRSA Hello” and learn about what’s new in fitness/strength equipment.
  • Don’t forget to pack your workout clothes! The Student Activity Center (SAC) will open at 6:00 a.m. for your early morning workout.

The workshop will be held at the Bovee University Center. The GPS Address is 103 East Preston, Mt. Pleasant, MI 48859. Before leaving your campus, we encourage you to please print out a copy of the parking passes for your cars/vans. Parking passes are good for parking lot 22 (view CMU_Campus Map for more details.) Directions to campus as well as a schedule overview can be downloaded below. The registration table will be opening at 8:00 a.m.

If you have colleagues who have not registered and plan to pay on-site, please bring credit card or check made out to MIRSA.
