Scholarship Application is Now Available

This program has been created to provide professionals and students employed at in-state institutions with financial assistance so that they may invest in their own professional development. This program provides the state association opportunities to offer recognition to those professionals who excel within MIRSA as well as at their individual institution.

The intent of this program is to provide professionals and students with opportunities for personal and professional growth through their involvement in MIRSA and NIRSA organizations.

Professional Scholarship Eligibility

To be considered for development scholarships during the current membership year, those applying must meet the following criteria.

Young Professional Development Scholarship (1-5 years within the field of Recreation)

• Be currently employed full time within a recreation program.

• Be a current MIRSA member, minimum of 1 year.

• Complete and submit the electronic application before the posted deadline.

Professional Leadership Development Scholarship (6+ years within the field of Recreation)

• Be currently employed full time within a recreation program.

• Serves or served MIRSA in some capacity which could include holding an executive office, chairing a committee, and/or providing leadership to the association.

• Be a current MIRSA member, minimum of 3 years.

Student Scholarship Eligibility

To be considered for development scholarships during the current membership year, those applying must meet the following criteria.

• Be employed by a campus recreation department.

• Submit resume, a copy of an unofficial transcript (to prove progress toward graduation), and electronic application. Send resume and transcript to Ross Winter at rjwinter@msu.edu.

Scholarship Selection Criteria

• Must meet all eligibility requirements to be considered for selection.

• Candidates will be rated based on the applicant’s service to MIRSA and demonstrated leadership in the field of recreation.

• Candidates will also be asked to provide a brief narrative on personal qualities, reasons for attending or involvement in outside development opportunities, and why he/she should be considered for selection.
